Class NoNO

If you are taking world regions with John Boyer, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK (used). There is an access code that you will need in order to register with the class's website and a used book means a used access code and no access for you. Buying new is not a problem.
This is the most wonderful textbook I have ever read. I will keep mine forever as it is highly informative and hilarious at the same time. Boyer and the Plaid Avenger make learning about the world fun.

An Excellent Perspective & Endeavour!

Not your everyday comic book, that is!
No, it's not even a comic book. Professor John Boyer [aka Plaid Avenger] has written a very succinct and compelling textbook that pretty much covers what is going in the world and why. It is The Book on the global current events. I am not going to write a long review, since most of others reviews here have done fairly good job at that, especially the reviews coming from students of his class. In our flawed education system, knowledge of foreigners is almost non- existent, and this books does everything it can to correct that.
Because the writing style is not of some high dry septuagenarian professor, even high schoolers can benefit very much from this text. And because it is so full facts and up to date info on current events and provides reasoning about why and how some things are happening in today's globalized world [globalization is one of the underlying themes], I can very easily see this book used as a complementary or even as major text in a humanities class or even a political science class [even graduate ?].
Definitely a must buy, especially for American students.

Best Textbook EVER!

This book was required reading for a Global Civilization class that was mandatory. I cared little about world politics, but thanks to this textbook, which was easy to read, understandable, and at times outright hilarious, I have a new passion for what is going on in the world. Every textbook should read like this one. The cover catches everyone's attention. My sons spied it on my coffee table and said, "Wow, what's this?" With all the fun, there is serious information inside. The Plaid Avenger also has a website where you can access Podcasts, or as he calls them "Plaidcasts" for more recent input on what is going on in the world today. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, student or otherwise, who wants more info on the world and how societies came to be, and how this relates to today's world.
